Design Similarity in Guess and Telfar Shopping Bags
Famous fashion brand Guess is accused of stealing the handbag design from Telfar.
The vegan leather bag, called "shopping bag", received the 2020 Design Museum fashion design award for emphasizing the importance of black style as well as facilitating accessibility to luxury products.
There are visual similarities between the two handbags. The Guess bag, sold in red, gray and black, has a circular G-shaped logo similar to the Telfar TC logo, and its distinctive rectangular shape is strikingly similar to the Telfar bag. G-tote's product description states that the bag is "a smooth, faux leather bag with double handles and shoulder straps for a versatile look".
Guess bags start in the $ 70 range and are made of faux leather, and Telfar's shopping bags are priced at $ 150 and above. It is also made of 100% vegan leather.

"Not only did they completely shatter the Telfar's design, they completely ignored it," it wrote.
Black Fashion Fair founder Antoine Gregory has highlighted the issues of racism in a series of tweets. “I think the most annoying and yet interesting part of this is that a company like Guess has the capital and resources to produce this bag in large quantities that the original designer could not,” he wrote.
Signal Brands, handbag licensee from Guess, Inc., does not want to impede Telfar Global's success and therefore independently decided to stop selling G-logo cases. "
A Twitter user shared pictures of two bags side by side. "I hope Telfar sues you all," he wrote
“Some on social media compared the boxes to Telfar's Global shopping bags.
Eleonora Rosati, a professor of intellectual property law, believes social media calling for plagiarism can help eliminate this.
“The public's reaction may also contribute to triggering a change in the approach and strategy of fashion houses,” she said.
